Training Courses

We take a practical approach; we help trainees find the knowledge that they need to go out into the real world and practice.

We have additional sessions which cover topics such as how to establish your reflexology business, how to interact with practitioners of other complementary therapies and alternative medicines. We also offer advise on Professional Insurance and ethics. Further courses are available in Pharmacology, Reiki I & II, Aromatherapy for babies and infants, Hopi Ear candles and master classes addressing meridians linking lymph drainage with reflexology.

Your tutor, Mrs. Loretta Cusworth is a practitioner of Reflexology, and her experience is backed by day-to-day work at both Amaryllis Complementary Health Centre, The Yorkshire School of Clinical Reflexology and various lecturing and teaching positions within the South Yorkshire Area.

Loretta Cusworth is a trained chiropodist and complementary therapist with a career spanning over 20 years. She is AoR (Association of Reflexologists)  approved, as well as being an Examiner Assessor for the AoR. Loretta's qualification include the Chirop.MBCHA, MSSCHA in Chiropody, ITEC qualified, City and Guilds FETC Levels iii & IV. Qualified in Clinical Medicine, pharmacology, thermoauriculor therapy, Reiki Master Practitioner as well and vast experience of other therapies and massage techniques.

Clinical Reflexology

Under the Association of Reflexology rules, students must attend a minimum of 100 hours at the school to qualify; including sessions on professional development over and above the base level qualification, along with the introduction of advanced techniques. Students should expect to spend approximately seven hours per week on home study through the training period. Assignments will be set, marked and the results monitored.

The later part of the course includes two mock examinations, (One practical and one theory) so students can practice their exam technique. The main external examination will take place shortly after the eleventh lesson. There will be one 150 minute theory paper, a 90 minute practical session and a requirements for eight cases studies which will have been produced over the later months. Examination fees are not included in the course. (Approximately £68.00 subject to change)

Students will be expected to purchase and bring to each lesson the following:

1. Required text books (Physiology and Anatomy, Reflexology) You will be given a list of the required text books by your tutor.

2. Writing materials

3. Coloured Pencils

4. Appropriate clothing - Clinical Uniform or White Polo shirt and dark trousers. Shoes should provide easy access to the foot. Short sleeves are recommended.

5.One Red and One Black or Blue pen

 

No earrings or watches should be worm when giving a treatment. Nails are to be kept short; this is essential.

The AoR requires students to have student membership and Professional Insurance for the duration of the course and your tutor will provide the relevant forms for you to apply for these; this is not included in the cost of the course.

Syllabus:

The course qualifies you as a fully trained reflexologist. Therapists have to be thoroughly trained in order to receive referrals from the medical field/doctors, specialists etc and should you wish to work as part of a health care team then specific in depth training is required.

Saturday/Sunday Classes:  Priory Campus, Business and Training Centre, Lundwood, Barnsley.

9.30am - 5.30pm - 30 minutes lunch break.

  • British History of Reflexology

  • Current theories and practice

  • working with energy; The Subtle body and Chakras

  • The philosophy of Complementary Therapies

  • The Holistic approach; Internal Biology

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Contra-Indications and their implications

  • Skin diseases and disorders of the feet

  • Diet and Nutrition

  • Interaction of the systems

  • Practical Instruction

  • Knowledge of the reflexes of the feet and appropriate charts

  • Understanding the reflexes of the feet

  • 100 hours clinical experience; detailed case studies

  • Supervised practical work with clients

  • Home assignments in the form of work books and essays

  • Evaluations at all sessions. Personal monitoring of work

  • Development of the practitioner and full support after qualification

  • An understanding of the intuitive touch and sensitivity. Grief and the dying process

  • Preparation of working area/clinic or other. Practice Management

  • Active listening and assessment through consultations with physical observations

  • Introduction to other therapies and an active understanding of availability

  • Social Support Systems

  • Code of Practice and Ethics. Practice Management

  • Problem Sharing

  • School support system; working towards and advanced reflexology diploma.

REIKI I - See Short Courses.

Weekend courses for atunement to Reiki I.  

Reiki therapy is a non-invasive therapy, which has no contra-indications. There are no negative effects reported, and it is practiced by people of all religious persuasions. Anyone can have Reiki initiated into their hands; it is even possible to initiate people who are in coma's, to children, or even animals.

Provided that you receive all four of the Reiki initiations from a qualified Reiki Master, you will have the healing power of Reiki for the rest of your life to draw on when you wish. Reiki helps with the healing of the body, from spiritual and emotional and can also be used for the healing of animals and plants.
